Man charged with strangulation in Randolph

Brickles

DAILEY – A man is behind bars after allegedly strangling a woman in Randolph County during a weekend incident.

Lance Franklin Brickles, 21, has been charged with strangulation, a felony. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond, set by Magistrate Mike Dyer.

According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Senior Trooper A.P. Petrella, of the Elkins Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, on Saturday, officers were dispatched to meet with the alleged victim at the Par Mar convenience store in Dailey at about 6:20 p.m.

The alleged victim told officers Brickles had “requested to go through her phone and they started arguing,” the complaint states. She said Brickles then “struck her in the head with his steel-toed boots” and then “choked” her.

An officer asked the alleged victim if she could breath during the incident, and she said she could not, according to the complaint. The officer asked her how long she was choked, and she said she couldn’t remember, but stated “she started to lose consciousness.”

At about 6:30 p.m. that day, officers took photos of the alleged victim’s injuries, including “contusions on her face, both forearms and her back,” the complaint states. “The victim had bruising on her throat consistent with a braided plastic necklace.”

An officer “observed petechiae (pinpoint spots on skin caused by small blood vessel bleeding) on the rear left and rear right of the victim’s neck, consistent with a hand being around her throat. From this officer’s training and experience, petechiae is a common injury resulting from strangulation.”

Brickles was taken into custody and booked at the TVRJ at 11:25 p.m. Saturday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
