Mary ‘Louise’ Mullens Phillips

Mary “Louise” Mullens Phillips, 93, a resident of Beverly, departed this life Thursday, July 20, 2017, in Davis Medical Center at Elkins. She had been in declining health.

She was born Saturday, Sept. 1, 1923, at Van Lear, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John and Elsie Mae Douglas Mullens.

On Sept. 28, 1941, she was married to the Rev. Glenn Ray Phillips, who preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1998.

Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Gary Ray Phillips and wife, Dottie, of Beverly, John David Phillips and wife, Joyce, of Beverly and Mark Allen Phillips and wife, Donna, of Dundee, Ohio; two daughters, Joyce Ann Morelli of Beverly and Linda Louise Strahin and husband, Jim ,of Harman; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend that she was proud of, Doris Riggleman.

Preceding her in death were one brother and two sisters, twins, Gertrude Paula Green and William Paul Mullens and Juanita Miller.

She was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1941 and was a member of Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center. She was a devoted member of Beverly United Methodist Church for 50 years, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, was a past president, a member of the choir and taught Bible school. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, camping, hiking and the sights of nature. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins today from 5-8 p.m. On Sunday, July 23, Mrs. Phillips will be moved to Beverly United Methodist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. The Rev. T. David Thompson will officiate, and interment will follow in Beverly Cemetery at Beverly.
