Donald Eugene Carr departed this life Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins and under the care of WV Caring.

Don was born July 21, 1931, in Hendricks, Tucker County, a son of the late Webb and Millie Miller Carr.

On Aug. 22, 1954, at Marfrance, he was united in marriage to the former Sara Black, who survives at Parsons. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Also surviving are his daughter Vickie Nestor of Parsons; his grandson, Chris Nestor (Heather); great grandchildren Prestlea and Lakelynn of Morgantown; granddaughter Alicia Cale (Wes): great grandchildren, Silas and Rosalea of Morgantown. Don was one of 12 brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his sisters Donna (John) Arnold of Keyser, Marie McDaniel of Baltimore, Maryland, Mary Ann Etzel of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Patsy (Dave) Lambert of Melbourne, Florida, and Pearl Fields of Liberty, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by one son, Danny Carr; and two infant daughters, Kathryn Carr and Karen Carr; his sisters Bonnie Carr, Geraldine Fisher, Helen Johnson, Polly Sagel, Ruby Kenny; and brothers Kelley Carr and Robert Carr.

He attended the school at Mill Run. Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. After serving four years, he worked for Penn Line, Bethlehem Steel, Dorman Mills and retired as a coal miner from Island Creek Mines. Don was a member of the Beekeeper’s Association. He loved spending time in his garden, hunting, trapping, farming and attending church with his family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his great grandchildren and watching them grow.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 3, at 1 p.m.

The Rev. Todd Rhodes will officiate and interment will follow at the Bright’s Chapel Cemetery at Dry Fork, where the Joint Base Andrews Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County. Veterans Association will conduct full military honors.
