Patricia Diane Farris Long


Patricia “Patty” a resident of Bunker Hill; was born and raised in Elkins. Patty passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 2020.

She was born in Elkins, on April 6, 1952, a daughter of Wilma Farris Leombruno of Elkins, and the late Roual E. (Ace) Farris of Elkins.

Patty graduated from Elkins High School in 1970, went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Special Education from West Virginia University in 1974, and obtained her National Board Certification for Teachers.

She started her teaching career in Randolph County at Beverly Elementary followed by Jennings Randolph Elementary. She then moved to Bunker Hill and continued teaching at Bunker Hill Elementary and Mill Creek Intermediate, retiring after 40 years of service. She loved being a teacher, excelled at creativity and was a talented seamstress remaining active in assisting with costumes and alterations for the theater and music programs in the Berkeley County School District.

Patty is survived by her daughter Katherine Long Illgen of Newport News, Virginia, son Andrew Long and wife Amanda of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, daughter Elizabeth Clark of Washington, D.C., and the love of her life, her granddaughter Talia Watson of Newport News, Virginia. She is also survived by two sisters; Peggy Farris Lockhart and husband Bob of Elkins, and Rebecca (Becky) Farris Stalnaker and husband Brad of Morgantown. Also surviving are her nieces Sara Lockhart Hillanbrand and husband Matt, Amy Lockhart Dick and husband Allen, and great nephew Owen Hillanbrand.

She chose to continue her love for teaching by donating her body to WVU Human Gift Registry.

A memorial service will be held at a later time.
