David L. Sheppard

SHEPPARD

David L. Sheppard, 90, of Buckhannon, died Saturday night, Nov. 28, 2020, at 10:30 p.m. surrounded by a few close family members while in the hearts and thoughts of many others.

A self-built businessman, he owned and operated Sheppard’s Furniture along side his wife, Betty June Koon Sheppard, for 68 years, from 1952-2020. This legacy will be continued in the hands of family.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 on the USS Yellow Stone AD-27 and the Cascade AD-16. He was a member of several organizations, including Franklin Lodge 7 A.F. & A.M., 50 years; Upshur Chapter 34 Royal Arch, 50 years; Clarksburg 32 degree Scottish Rite, 50 years; Elkins Commandry 21; Wheeling Osiris Shrine, 50 years; Upshur County Shrine Club; Loyal Order of the Moose, lifetime member; American Legion, lifetime member; Veteran Foreign Wars, lifetime member and Disabled American Veterans, lifetime member. He served as the Past Patron of Eastern Star OES and was a trustee of Light Chapel Church.

Mr. Sheppard was born on May 29, 1930, in Logan County, a son of the late Offa W. and Ida J. Simons Sheppard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William L. Sheppard; one sister, Ilene Sheppard Nixon; one half brother, Ralph Sheppard; and one half-sister, Darl McKown.

Also surviving are one daughter, Ronna Lea Sheppard Smallridge and husband, Daniel R.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Bridgette D. Smallridge Tenney and husband, Mitchell, and children, Alisha and Colton, Tiffany Smallridge Beets and husband, Bryan, and children, Tristan and Makenna and Scott Smallridge and wife, Tina, and children, Julia, Ella, John and Noah.

Friends will be received for a graveside service Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon with Pastor Brandon Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery.
