SCHMIEDEKNECHT

Randall Charles Schmiedeknecht, 60, of Huddleston, Virginia, peacefully paced away surrounded by family, Saturday Feb. 27, 2021, following a long illness.

He was born Aug. 8, 1960, in Muskegon, Michigan, the oldest son of the late David and Marie (Gill) Schmiedeknecht. He worked at Dupont in Front Royal, Virginia, and later became associate broker of Davis/High Valley Realty in Davis.

He and wife, Sandra, owned and operated My Grampa’s Attic in Davis for many years. He was a past member of the Davis City Council and later became mayor of Davis. He served the community in countless ways but the development of the Davis Riverfront Park was one of his greatest accomplishments.

He attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) in Kirksville, Missouri, and was a member of the Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Dearborn) Schmiedeknecht, of Huddleston, Virginia; his brothers, Terry (Jackie) Schmiedeknecht and Michael Schmiedeknecht of Front Royal, Virginia; his sons, Jeremy (Amanda) Schmiedeknecht of Baker, Stephen (Melanie) Coe of Forest, Virginia; and his daughter, Kristin (Nathan) Toman of Strasburg, Virginia; his grandchildren, Ethan and Owen Toman, Josh (Tracy) Whitlow and Jenna Whitlow; his special sister-in-law, Ann (Dick) Longenecker of Huddleston, Virginia; and his two special nephews, LCPL Austin (Victoria) Longenecker and Alexander Longenecker.

A kind and gentle man, the family requests those wishing to make memorial donations consider the Davis Riverfront Park, PO Box 207, Davis, WV or Amedisys Hospice, 5221 Valley Park Dr., Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24109.

The family will be forever grateful for the loving care of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice nurses and staff.

A celebration of life will be held in Huddleston, Virginia in late spring, with date and time to be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bedford, Virginia.
