George Richard Scott

SCOTT

George Richard Scott, 75, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Friday morning April 16, 2021, at the Valentine’s Personal Care Home at Elkins, West Virginia, with his family by his side and under the care of WV Caring.

He had been in declining health.

He was born Saturday, Dec. 15, 1945, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late John Michael Scott and Virginia Daniels Scott Kelly.

On June 19, 1996, at Las Vegas, Nevada, he was married to the former Kay E. Daniels, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Joshua David Scott and wife, Jennifer, of Waynesboro, Virginia, Benjamin Andrew Scott and wife, Heather, of Leonardtown, Maryland; one stepson, Derrick Hoffman and wife, Emily, of Morgantown, West Virginia; one step daughter, Jessica N. Currence and husband, Brian, of Elkins; one brother, J. Michael Scott Jr. of Columbia Falls, Montana; two sisters, Patricia Ann Brophy and husband, John, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Lynn Carol Winn and husband, Charles, of Stuart, Florida; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Sydney and Andrew Scott, Brendan Scott, Aubrey and Eli Currence, and Lucas and Aiden Hoffman.

Preceding him in death are one son, Matthew Martin Scott; and one stepbrother, Dr. Richard Colin “Cappy” Kelly.

George attended the schools of Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1963. He attended Davis & Elkins College and was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College with a BS in accounting. He received his Masters of Business at Arizona State University.

For a period he taught accounting at Alderson-Broaddus College and started his CPA Business in 1979 in Elkins, West Virginia, from which he retired in 2008. He enjoyed spending time on the farm with his sons, and he loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 23.

On Saturday, April 24, 2021, Mr. Scott will be moved to the Landmark Baptist Church, where Final Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Ken Shiflet will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia. Masks and social distancing will be required.
