Marie ‘Nip’ Mallow Poling


Mrs. Marie “Nip” Mallow Poling, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at the Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Mrs. Poling was born December 17, 1943, in Alpena, a daughter of the late Dayton and Eva Hedrick Mallow.

On July 15, 1963, she was united in marriage to Clayton Poling, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Charles Poling and companion, Mary Gross, of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Clayton Poling III of Bowden; dear friend, Charlene Roy; three granddaughters, Ashley Poling and companion, Kaleb Loudin, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Amber Kisner and husband, Roger, of Junior, and Jazmyn McVey of Norton; five great- grandchildren, Destinee Wood, Jayce Loudin, Paislee and Brentlee and Mathias Kisner.

Also surviving are five sisters, Ruthleen Rhodes of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Emma Phillips of Beverly, Jean Rhodes of Pennsylvania, Patty Channels of Elkins and Rosanna Everhart of Montrose; and four brothers, Herman, June, Paul and Jack Mallow, all of Elkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmer and William Perry “Buck” Mallow; and six sisters, Marcie, Barbara, Reba and Rhoda Mallow and Dolly Nelson and Gladys Gordon.

Mrs. Poling was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved canning, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and making sure her family was taken care of. She attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1962. Mrs. Poling was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Elkins.

A graveside service will be at noon on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Mountain State Memorial Gardens. Pastor Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow.

Masks and social distancing are required for anyone attending the service.
