Lura Josephine ‘Jo’ Shanholtz Cannon

Lura Josephine “Jo” Shanholtz Cannon, 72, a resident of Montrose, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, Jan. 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

She was born Monday, Dec. 19, 1949 at Green Springs, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John and Mary May Knisley Shanholtz.

On Dec. 23, 1965, at Green Springs, West Virginia, she was married to the love of her life, the Reverend Terry Eugene Cannon, who survives. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sisters, Bonnie Combs of Illinois, Susie Hott and husband, Charles “Peachie,” of Green Springs; three God children, Tiffany Stark of Buckhannon, Branson Henry and Rachael Henry, both of Montrose; and her beloved church family and many friends.

Preceding her in death are one precious daughter, Lori Lynn Cannon; one precious son, Terry Eugene Cannon II; one brother, Wesley Shanholtz; and two sisters, Anna Bell Clem and Minnie Largent.

She was a graduate of Hampshire High School with the class of 1967. Jo loved being with children, enjoyed visiting with people and traveling. She was a member of the Believer’s Fellowship Church at Montrose and the Shiloh Baptist Church of Elkins.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24, 2022. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home Monday, at 6 p.m. Pastor Kevin Henry, the Reverend Bill Cutshaw and Pastor Mike Santmyire will officiate. Jo’s request for cremation will follow.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Believer’s Fellowship Church, 1328 Grass Lick Road, Montrose, WV 26283.
