Constance Nadine Phillips Varner


Mrs. Constance Nadine Phillips Varner, 92, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, Aug. 4, 2022, in the comforts of her home. Death was following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 14, 1929, at Junior, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Eustace “Tubie” and Virginia Dare McCaughey Phillips.

On Dec. 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alfred Cameron Varner, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2010.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Lynne Varner of Elkins; one son, Jeff C. Varner of Elkins; one brother, Robert “Sut” Phillips and wife, Ruth, of Belington; and one sister, Charlotte Canfield of LaGrange, Ohio.

Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Constance was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1947 and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She and her husband owned and operated the CaVar’s Clothing Store in Elkins and was also previously employed by McManus Gifts in Elkins. She was also a member of the Elkins OES Chapter 74, she assisted with 4-H and assisted with the Elkins High School Band Auxiliary. She was a loving and caring lady and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington, on Sunday Aug. 7, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at which time she will be moved to the K of P Cemetery in Junior, where graveside services will be conducted with Raymond Godwin officiating.

Interment will follow.
