Joan L. Vance

Joan L. Vance, 82, of Orrville, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.

Joan was born on Dec. 14, 1939, in Mill Creek, West Virginia, to the late John and Ruth (Cutright) Markley and attended Tygart Valley High School. She married Donald L. on Sept. 26, 1955, in Elkins, West Virginia. Donald died on Sept. 27, 2001.

She worked for Bren-Field Nursing Center, Horn Nursing Home, Hawkins Cafeteria and in the environmental services for Wooster Community Hospital for five years, retiring in 2004.

Joan was a member of Christ United Church of Christ. She enjoyed visiting with her friends at the Orrvilla apartments, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are five children, Angela (Rick) Smith of Orrville, Donald L. Vance Jr. of Apple Creek, Dana (Will) Barnes of Marianna, Florida, Janel Vance of Orrville and Jack (Michelle) Vance of Dalton; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Casey) Smith of Delaware, Jason (Holly) Smith of Lewis Center, Patricia (Jesse) Chargualaf of Wooster, Kenneth Vance of Massillon, Ryan (Anastasia) Vance of Akron, Zachary Vance of Dalton, Ashley (Antonio) Jones of Orlando, Florida, and Jarrod (Rose) Barnes of Orlando, Florida; three sisters, Jewel Knaggs of Joppa, Maryland, Mary McCrary of Valparasio, Indiana, and Judy Chernowski of Woodbourne, New York; brother, George Markley of Montour Falls, New York; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Wilson Shreve; step-mother, Geraldine Markley; grandchild, Steven H. Vance; daughter-in-law, Mary Vance; sister, Evelyn Jenkins; and brother, Roger Markley.

Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Services will be held at noon on Thursday at Auble Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.

A luncheon will follow at Christ United Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at Ohio Hospice LifeCare that helped take care of our mother and comforted us. Also, a special thank you to her friends Marie, Florida, Ida and Karen that were there when mom needed them.
