W. Frances McCauley Flanagan

FLANAGAN

November 30, 1952 – October 15, 2022

W. Frances (Fran) McCauley Flanagan passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by her three children, Brandi, Shannon and Shane.

Fran, the daughter of James and Viola McCauley of Mill Creek, West Virginia, moved to Maryland after graduating from Tygarts Valley High School in 1970.

On April 15, 1972, she married William (Bill) James Flanagan, formerly of Valley Head, West Virginia, after which they lived in Maryland and Virginia, meeting great friends along the way.

They were married for 20 years before Bill passed away Aug. 7, 1992.

After his passing, Fran continued to raise their three children in Richmond, Virginia.

Fran was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loved ones. She loved her trips back home to West Virginia, visiting her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, particularly when her visit was to attend the McCauley annual family reunions over July 4th weekends.

As all family and friends can attest to, one of Fran’s favorite things to do was to cook. Everything from her famous Sunday morning ‘country breakfasts’ to her homemade spaghetti sauce and cheesy-greasy meatloaf, to her desserts like peanut butter fudge, German chocolate cake and pumpkin rolls, everyone had at least one favorite.

Her family takes comfort knowing that she is now in heaven with Bill, as well as parents, James and Viola McCauley; and siblings, Steven, Kathryn (Kat), Connie and Donald (Donnie).

She is survived by her three children, Brandi Flanagan, Shannon (Larry) Bogan and Shane (Alana) Flanagan; seven grandchildren, Katie, Brandon, Zachary, Brianna, and McKenna (Bogan), and Declan and Raeghan (Flanagan), all of whom who affectionately call her “Gaga”; 11 brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, beginning at 1 p.m. at Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church, followed by a service at 2 p.m.

Interment at Valley Head Cemetery to immediately follow.
