Carol Jean (Goss) Thomas
THOMAS
Carol Jean (Goss) Thomas, 86, a resident of Parsons, West Virginia, departed this life Friday afternoon Dec. 23, 2022.
She was born Saturday, Feb. 15, 1936, at Parsons, West Virginia, the first child of the late Johnnie Goss and Christeen Repair Goss.
She was always proud to share that she was the birthday present for her daddy that year as his birthday was the same day.
On June 25, 1983, at Elkins, West Virginia, she was married to Garry Dean Thomas, her true love, who preceded her in death earlier this year.
Prior to moving back to Parsons in the 1970s, she lived for many years in Berkley, Michigan, where she raised three of her daughters and later met Garry.
Surviving are four daughters, who she shared a loving and unique relationship with each, Debi Hatfield of Hambleton, West Virginia, Christi Flynn of Pahrump, Nevada, Kellie Flynn Freeman and husband, Allen, of Lewis County, West Virginia, and Amy Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Lynda Gray and husband, Pat, of Parsons, West Virginia; one sister-in-law, Saundra Goss (Don) of Hambleton, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Ryan Hatfield and wife, Rebecca, Kylie Helmick and husband, Buck, Kelly Mears and wife, Caty, Cody Mears, Nick Amaro and wife, Emilee, and Dean Klus and wife, Courtney; seven great-grandchildren that brought her so much joy, Hudson Dean Hatfield and Henry Hatfield, Kennedy and Carter Helmick, Ollie and Landon Amaro, and her just born great- grandson, Camden Thomas Klus; her favorite cousin and best friend for life, “Skeeter”; Jean Southworth, dear friend and Garry’s sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Preceding her in death are her first husband, Christopher Flynn, father of Debi, Christi and Kellie; two brothers John Goss “Sonny” and Donald Goss “Donnie;” one grandson, Shawn Hatfield and her BFF, Donnell McCoy.
She was a 1954 graduate of Parsons High School. CJ loved sharing stories of her years working at the FBI in Washington, D.C., and living at the Young Women’s Christian Home right after high school graduation and all the fun times with Skeeter.
She and Garry were co-owners of CJ’s Pizzeria, until their retirement in 2020. She loved the many employees and customers that became like family over the years. She loved going “putzing” and finding home decor treasures which included P. Buckley Moss prints, Santas, antiques & quilts, and Willieraye figures. Earlier in their marriage, she and Garry enjoyed traveling, which included among her favorites — the beach, Niagara Falls, and cruises to the Bahamas and Alaska. They regularly enjoyed a cranberry orange muffin from Perkins and a cup of McDonald’s coffee.
CJ loved animals along with her husband and had rescued many over the years. Her latest little baby, poodle mix “Willie”, has helped see her through the loss of Garry earlier this year.
In lieu of flowers, donations in CJ’s name will be appreciated at the Tucker County Animal Shelter, 586 Brooklyn Heights, Parsons, WV 26287 or tcanimalshelter.org.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, WV on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. The Rev. James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, West Virginia.
