Denny Phill Weese

WEESE

On Aug. 27, 2023, Denny Phill Weese, 82, took his final breath at his home in Washington, Pennsylvania, formerly of Belington West Virginia, beside his beloved wife, Elizabeth Weese.

Many knew Denny by the name of Phill. Phill lived and experienced a wonderful, active and blessed life.

He was born on March 20, 1941.

Born and raised in West Virginia, he studied in Barbour County Schools, where he played varsity basketball. He was honored to travel by train in 1955 to Austin, Texas, to play in the Babe Ruth Little League Baseball championship game. He has many memorabilia including his uniform, bat, pins and other small trinkets from this day.

After his schooling Phill found and took the hand of his best friend, Elizabeth A. Coontz, in marriage on May 28 1960. After this day, the couple would take on their life together doing everything as a team. In 1964, his career as a diesel mechanic led the couple around the United States working on jobs for the I.U.O.E Local 132 Operating Engineers Pipeline Union. By the end of his career, he was titled Master Mechanic.

When he retired in 2003, Phill would enjoy working in his garden, lawn and go fishing with his friends. If he wasn’t at home, he would be at Dianne’s restaurant for a morning coffee and cracking jokes with all who knew him. Phill was also very active in serving the Lord at Asbury United Methodist Church, located in Belington, West Virginia.

Within the church Phill’s duties included but not limited to being an usher, trustee, and he belonged to the Methodist Men. He even received the “Man of the Year” award for his outstanding service in and outside of the church.

Along with his church duties, Phill kept busy and involved within his community. He was a member on the board of trustees for the Good Samaritan of Belington, a member of the Master Masonic Temple AF and AM of 125 of Belington since 1965, an aide and emeritus of the Osiris temple of Wheeling since 1974, Red Fez Patrol of Philippi, member of Eastern Star of Belington, and the Tygarts Valley Shrine Club of Elkins.

Being a member of many organizations didn’t stop him from being a loving father, husband and a wonderful mentor to his wife, son and his two grandchildren.

Denny was predeceased by his parents, Grant (Dick) Weese and Vesta Marie Wagner Weese of Barbour County. Siblings include Willa R. Armstrong Weese and her husband, Sam, of Remington Virginia, Benny L. Weese of Brandy Station, Virginia; and brother-in-law Jerry Hill of Vienna, West Virginia.

Denny is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ann (Libby) (Coontz) Weese; son, Phillip John Weese; and daughter-in-law, Felica Reene of Washington. Two grandchildren Joshua (Josh) Alan Weese and his wife, Jessica (Jessie) Alexandria Weese, of Washington and Brooke Elizabeth Weese of Morgantown. Siblings including Patty J. Weese of Vienna, West Virginia, Reba A. Weese and her husband, Paul, of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and sister-in-law, Joye Weese of Culpepper, Virginia. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Phill was a strong man with an even stronger will to live and fought the fight up until his last breath. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, from 5-9 p.m. and again on Thursday Aug. 31, 2023, from 8-11 a.m. the funeral hour where final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Rev.
