Mary Alice Louk Howell

Mary Alice Louk Howell, 102, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, Oct. 5, 2023 at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins, West Virginia.
She was born Tuesday, June 21, 1921, at Shavers Run, Mill Creek, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Frank C. and Lucy Pudder Louk.
On Jan. 25, 1941 at Elkins, West Virginia, she was married to Alvin E. Howell, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Alvin Howell of Elkins; two daughters, Mary H. Fox of Morgantown and Bonnie Riffe of Elkins; one foster son, David Wayne Jackson and wife, Alma; one brother, Blair Louk and wife, Patty, of Dailey; two sisters, Ina Gear of Elkins and Shirley Riegal of Maryland; five grandchildren, Joseph Fox, Logan Fox, Kimberly Hamrick and husband, Allan, Mary Alice Posey and Marsha Ann Lester; nine great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are one foster son, Mark Allen Crites; one son-in- law, Eugene Riffe; two brothers, Junior and Kenneth Louk; and four sisters, Neva Swecker, Vada Johnson, Laura Nelson and Roxie Lodge.
She attended the one- room school at Shaver’s Run and Tygarts Valley High School. She was a homemaker, was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, gardening and caregiving.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m.
Pastor Roy Schneider will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, West Virginia.
