Thomas Gayle Summerfield

He was born Feb. 9, 1940, at Alpena, a son of the late William T. Summerfield and the late Gertrude White Summerfield.

On Oct. 1, 1960, at Oakland, Maryland, he married Sandra K. “Sandy” Summerfield, who preceded him in death Dec. 3, 2017.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas R. Summerfield and wife, Rebecca, and Todd R. Summerfield and fiance, Paula Stevens, all of Elkins; one brother, Donald Summerfield and wife, Donna, Cresaptown, Maryland; and four sisters, Joyce Ellen Channels and husband, Ralph, Brenda Barb and Annabelle Baer, all of Elkins, and Norma Robertson of Salisbury, Maryland.

Also preceding him in death was one son, Timothy Summerfield; three brothers, William, Jeffrey and Lewis “Lewie” Summerfield; and one sister, Lucille “Tiny” Vanscoy.

Tom attended the schools of Randolph County. He was the owner of Tom’s Auto Sales and T & S Builders and was later employed as a carpenter for Home Builders – Trushel Construction Company at the time of his retirement. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and watching old westerns, birds and squirrels and loved spending time with his family.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel.

Rev. Robert L. Baer Jr will officiate and interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
