Freda Janice Fitzgerald

She was born Sept. 2, 1937, in French Creek, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Theodore O. Carpenter and Maude Alderman Carpenter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bettie Rose, Georgena Hosaflook and Mary Janssen.

She is survived by twin daughters, Marilyn Fitzgerald-Hyde and husband, James, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Marlene Chidester and husband, Carl, of Rock Cave, West Virginia; one son, Boyd Melvin Fitzgerald Jr. of Buckhannon, West Virginia; two grandsons, Carl Chidester II of Rock Cave, West Virginia, and Bradlee Chidester and fiance, Amy Jackson, of Frenchton, West Virginia; three granddaughters, Carlene Chidester and companion, Isaac Talbott, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Tessa Cutright and husband, Chester, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and Andra Rowan and husband, Jake, of French Creek, WV; eight great-grandchildren, Garrett and Madison Cutright of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Cole and Aubrey Horner, McKinleigh and Laine Rowan all of French Creek, West Virginia, Braylee Chidester of Frenchton, West Virginia, and Iris Chidester of Rock Cave, West Virginia; one sister, Bonnie Hinkle of French Creek, West Virginia; two brothers, Robert Carpenter and wife, Diann, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and Roger Carpenter and wife, Cindy, of French Creek, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews and their families; her beloved dog, Gracie, and cat, Lacie.

Janice was a 1956 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. She was employed by Home Hardware Inc. for 30-plus years until its closing in 2006. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and working puzzles.

In honoring her wishes, Janice was cremated.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Bethlehem Cemetery in French Creek, West Virginia.
