Spring Break and Easter weekend come to Barbour County

Hello from Barbour County! Some of us were surprised earlier this week to see winter make an entrance once again. Snow flurries and cold temperatures stormed in, but then by the end of the week, it was spring once again.

We were able to get some much-needed yard work done, as well as the first mowing of the season.

I hope that you all have a good Easter this Sunday. School resumes in Barbour County on April 23.

The annual Philippi Art Stroll will take place on April 26 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The Art Stroll will feature local artists and musicians throughout downtown Philippi.

With spring, come ramps. There will be a ramp dinner at the Mt. Liberty Community Building on April 27 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

There will be ham, potatoes with/without ramps, soup beans, ramps, applesauce, cornbread or roll, dessert, and a drink. The cost will be $12 for adults and $6 for children, 12 and under. Their famous Apple Butter will also be for sale for $8 per quart or $5 for a pint.

There will be a Food Service Worker Permit Class on May 1 at the Market Place in Philippi Registration begins at 5:15 pm, with the class starting at 6 p.m. The cost for a state wide card is $20, and a Barbour County card is $10. Cards are valid for two years.

For more information, call Sanitarian Bill Nestor, at the Barbour County Health Dept. at (304) 457-1670.

In addition to the monthly classes, the Barbour County Health Department has a weekly Food Service Worker test that will be given every Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the health department.

Philippi’s annual city wide yard sale will take place on May 4. If you are interested in participating, or if you have any questions, call City Hall at (304) 457-3700, ext. 226.

There will be a Vera Bradley Purse Bingo on May 5, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Junior Fire Department.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Philip Barbour graduation and the last day of school for students in Barbour County will be May 24. Congratulations Philip Barbour Class of 2019!
