Last day of school is fast approaching in Barbour County

Hello from Barbour County!

I would like to say a special hello to all my faithful readers who take time to tell me that they enjoy this column. It’s nice to know that it’s appreciated.

Summer is quickly approaching. I can’t believe that May is here already. The last day of school in Barbour County will be May 24, and Philip Barbour’s graduation will also take place that evening.

Congratulations to Adaland Mansion, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. If you’ve never been there, do take time to stop by and take a tour. It’s a large old mansion with a great history.

Philippi Middle School volleyball and basketball teams will be having a pancake breakfast at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church on May 4 from 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new scorer’s table.

Also on May 4, there will be a ramp dinner at the Belington Volunteer Fire Department from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. This will be hosted by the Teter Creek Lake Neighborhood Watch. The cost will be $10 per meal for adults and for children ages 6-12, the cost will be $5.

After you’ve had your belly full of pancakes and/or ramps, head on over to the New Beginnings Church for a time of fellowship, food, games, fun, crafts, and a bouncy house, with their Carnival For Christ. This will take place on May 4 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. New Beginnings Church is located on Rt. 92, just past the Kasson School.

There will be a Vera Bradley Purse Bingo on May 5, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Junior Fire Department. Tickets will be available at the door, and this is sponsored by Freedom’s Bank Relay for Life team, and the Junior VFD.
