Leaves are now falling and time is flying in Barbour County

Hello from Barbour County! The leaves are really starting to look pretty.

Look quick though, because they are also falling fast.

The first quarter of school in Barbour County is already over. Time is flying by!

The 36th annual Mt. Liberty Fall Festival takes place today, Oct. 19, with the opening ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.

Come on out for lots of good food, music, crafts, vendors, and don’t forget their famous apple butter, made on site — the old-fashioned way. It’s sure to be a good time.

Mt. Liberty community is located between Philippi and Belington on Rt 250. Follow the signs near Poling’s Store.

The Heart and Hand House is preparing for their annual Christmas basket give away. This is income based, and you must sign up to receive a basket.

Sign-ups will be held Oct. 21-23 at the Market Place in Philippi and in Belington at the Heart and Hand Thrift Store on Oct. 21-22. Bring proof of residency, income and proof of the number of people in the home.

Baskets will be given out Dec. 18 and 19.

There will be a Trick or Treat event again this year at the barn at the Barbour County Fairgrounds on Oct. 22, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The Enchanting Barn will have each stall decorated differently, and lots of local businesses will be participating in handing out candy.

Halloween is Oct. 31. There will be lots of trick or treaters out and about, so please be extra cautious when driving and watch out for the little ghosts and goblins.

Philippi Public Library will host a “haunted library” tour on Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

In Belington, the first Saturday in November is always reserved for the annual Turkey Trot, sponsored by the Belington Wellness Center and Clinic.
