Santa Claus and Christmastime are on their way in Barbour County

Hello from Barbour County! I hope that you all had a good Thanksgiving. Did you get the big buck this year? School in Barbour County will resume on Dec. 2 at the normal schedule.

I guess now that Thanksgiving is over, Christmas will be the next stop. Have you started shopping yet? If you are still looking for that special something on the list, head on over to the Belington Fire Department for their “Deck the Halls,” craft and vendor show. It will be on Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and on Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, contact Lara at (304) 457-2375, or Lana at (304) 591-5657.

Barbour County 4-H will once again be sponsoring the Christmas Craft Show at the Philippi City Gym on Main Street. The 4-H Leaders planning committee has been busy with applications and planning to make the 2019 Christmas Craft Show a success. Currently there are over 20 vendors registered for the weekend. This will be a great time to do some Christmas Shopping as you will have a variety of items to shop through. While strolling through the vendor booths you may want to have a small snack at the 4-H Concession area. Limited space is still available, please call the WVU Barbour Co. Extension Office at 457-3254 to get an application if you are interested in setting up a booth.

The Craft Show will be open Dec. 6 from 4-9 p.m. and on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be held in conjunction with the Philippi Christmas parade which takes place on Dec. 6, beginning at 7 p.m. The lighting of the Christmas tree at the courthouse will follow.

A special Christmas concert for Barbour County featuring area singers and musicians is set for Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Philippi Baptist Church on Church Street. The Community Christmas Concert is part of the City of Philippi’s “A Covered Bridge Christmas” celebration. The concert is free and open to the public.

Barbour County Health Department is collecting donations of bars of soap to put in Christmas baskets. Donations will be accepted until Dec. 8. For every donation, you will receive a small gift. Please help them meet their goal of 250 bars of soap.

There will be a first time, Barbour County Miss Christmas Pageant on Dec. 13 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Junior Community building. Deadline for pageant entries are due by Dec. 5. There will also be a small Christmas program for the kids with Santa.

Wreathes Across America will take place at the Fraternal Cemetery on Dec. 14 at noon. This is a national program to honor veterans at Christmas time by placing a wreath on their grave. Plan to join in on this holiday tradition.
