Boos & Applause

Applause to the 23 local military veterans were honored during The Inter-Mountain’s 2019 Unsung Heroes Reception Wednesday afternoon at the Randolph County Senior Center. The Inter-Mountain’s Unsung Heroes series of articles — which just completed its third year — features area veterans and shares their first-hand accounts of their military service. Since 2017, 74 stories of local veterans who have served in the military have been published. The series runs from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.

Applause also to all the Veterans Day events held across the area this week. On Nov. 9, the Elkins Veterans Day Parade took place in downtown Elkins. In Buckhannon, a Veterans Day Parade began Monday morning. Also on Monday morning, the Belington Veterans Day Parade marched through town. On Nov. 9, American Legion Post 29 in Elkins hosted its 100th Veterans Day Dinner.

Applause to the Tygarts Valley High School football team, which will compete in a Class A opening-round playoff game today. Tygarts Valley, the 13th seed, will be in action at 1:30 p.m. at No. 4 Greenbrier West. The Bulldogs have had a great season and will be fighting to make a run through the playoffs.

Applause to Elks Lodge 1135 for donating to Jennings Randolph Elementary School to purchase new playground equipment. In September, the Elks Club held a fundraiser and raised $3,200 to donate to the school for new playground equipment. ‘It’s just a continuing effort on part of the Elks to support the youth of Randolph County,’ Elks Club trustee Stanley Teets said.

Applause to the Westfall family for its farm being named a Century Farm. Westfall Farms was honored for its 100-year-plus history at a recent Tygart Valley Conservation District legislative banquet.
