Hawkins coverage led to action

February 21, 2014

Former Barbour County Sheriff John Hawkins recently told an Inter-Mountain reporter our publication would be the first to know if and when he resigned....

Yes, Maj; I still support police officers 100 times more than a 'journalist' today. Incompetent national media would like to make us think all police are corrupt when it's very rare. But look at journalists....well, first you must look really hard to find a real one. Media ruined all the credibility they ever had.

Thissentenceisfalse: Just google it. The blaze has an article on it from someone they got it from. And found one at one other site that I really never heard about before but has pics and everything.

I mean go to Yahoo and look at the entire full page of 'so-called' news. It's full of kardashian crap; miley cyrus nonsense and everything that's NOT newsworthy. I don't care about other people's personal lives; soap opera crap etc....but national media itself isn't even reporting or spending 5 minutes telling us about the disturbing things happening around the world and really not even everything happening here in the USA!

What has happened to our media in America? Crazy stuff.

Maj, do you support police who quit their jobs and cover up insurance fraud.

And on a very disturbing note, I am going to agree with Truth Seeker and ask where IS the news on Venezuela and Kiev? I appreciate local scandal and I know there is a specific section of local news, but it's a big world out there are stuff is happening. Let's talk about that too.

I have 'zero' respect for politicians, progressives of any political persuasion, liberals, or journalists. Journalists over past 10 years have destroyed their credibility.

Still, to date, journalists, national and local news media report on kardashians, miley cyrus, etc...and refuse to report on political matters, world wide riots, nations socialist govts killing their own citizens; example: Venzuela. Where's the coverage while Venzuela is burning? National media quiet on this as well.

Obama wanting to "snoop" and "intimidate" news outlets into ONLY reporting what HE wants reported. Well, gee, Obama, aren't they ALREADY doing your bidding???? What more do you want?????

Doesn't anyone other than me find it odd that Hawkins made the comment that this woman may be the next body found at Arden? Perhaps he knows more about the several people who have been found at Arden than he's telling. I would think this comment would be enough for the FBI to start an investigation into the other cases, perhaps linking Hawkins to some of those murders. I find it hard to believe anyone would make such a comment in passing.

You may go ahead and pat yourself on the back, IM, but the real hero (if there really is any here) is the young woman who pressed charges against the Sheriff. How long was this guy Sheriff? How many other prisoners did he assault and threaten?

Nobody can argue that this guy was despicable. But the way that you, as a newspaper, made it known that you had contempt for this man was as overt as spitting on someone. Oh, and the Large Black headline on the Friday paper...was the headline as big on September 11, 2001?

As alleged journalists I challenge you to uncover the real stories in Elkins, WV.

What's up with the landfill debacle in Elkins? How big is that debt? Who created it?

Why is the Randolph County Board of Education almost a million dollars in debt?

Why is the new water plant not completed yet? Where is that project? Why is it moving so slowly? In the meantime, what is the condition of the old water plant?

Why is there no longer a meter maid in downtown Elkins?
