@conservative dad "These officials need a pat on the back for saving citizens prolonged costs." Your statement validates my point! Iam not a resident of Elkins or Randolph County and I find it insulting that non-residents have to shoulder this huge debt, caused by mismangement and incompetence. However, I note that you are happy "for saving citizens prolonged costs." You wanted the landfill, you supported--you should pay for it! As for your local politicians, you and others are naive enough to believe that local politicians railroaded the bill through the legislature because they care about you? No, they were just using taxpayers' money to pander votes! Disgusting and revolting. Those politicians and you sir, should be ashamed!

Oh thanks conservativedad for clearing that up. So legislators were 'secretly' already thinking about making taxpayers pay for that. Oh THAT makes a difference---NOT!!!

Apparently someone feels real conservatives shouldn't have a say in political matters. Or that real conservatives should not have opinions or if they differ from liberals opinions we should shut up or run for office. How very typical of liberals. Freedom of SPEECH they believe is only for them. Shows how little intelligence & tolerance the left has for anyone who doesn't coddle them in their beliefs. Which is why their support is dwindling and a democrat poll this week shows their once hearty voting base is admitting they'll not even show up to vote in November as they are very discouraged and unhappy with the lies they were fed 24x7 5 years ago by same liberals.

A big BOOO to legislators and Governor Tomblin and state BOE for ignoring years of this:

West Virginia State Police say a teacher from Marlinton has been arrested on charges she had sex with a student in 2013.

In a release issued Thursday, state police say 25-year-old Samantha Bartley was arrested this week on three counts of sexual assault by a guardian. Investigators say a former student of Pocahontas High School came forward to say he had sexual relations with Bartley when he was a student.

How many more teachers get to sexually abuse their students in WV before something is even discussed by our legislators? These are happening more and more in WV and yet our legislators/BOE/Governor ignore them and don't even comment on it!

Oh forgive me; Gov Tomblin DID discuss teachers in WV recently....he gave them a big PAYRAISE!

The below comment that the bill was "eleventh hour" is false. The bill was in the works for months. These officials need a pat on the back for saving citizens prolonged costs. If you don't like the local politicians, you should run yourself.

When you vote for crooks and those without values and morals; well, this is what you get.

A more intelligent thinking voter base would stop this. So enjoy what you've asked for.

With much fanfare and chest beating Elkins developed a new landfill using grant (taxpayer) money. However, due to mismanagement and incompetence by administrators, it failed miserably! Instead of Elkins developing a plan to make the landfill solvent and function as intended, they chose to close it and then, the plot thickens. After closing, they cannot pay off the enourmous debt or pay the closure/capping costs. After much hand-wringing by city officials, they came up with a brilliant plan--pass the bill off to taxpayers. And, they enlisted local politicians to get a bill through the legislature at the eleventh hour that the majority of legislators had never read which handed the costs off to taxpayers. State residents that derived no benefit from the landfill are picking up the tab. The saddest part about this whole fiasco is nobody is held accountable for their mismangement!
