Community opens heart during holidays

December 31, 2011
By Sue Farrar - President of the Randolph County Ministerial Association

I am so grateful for our wonderful community and how you opened your arms and heart this Holiday Season. I want to thank all of you that helped and served at the Community Thanksgiving dinner at the IOOF Hall in Elkins.

Also, to those who donated food. The manager at Shop N Save donated 300 rolls, First Baptist Church donated 75 pies, many of you donated turkeys and cooked them, Davis Memorial Hospital fixed the dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Otterbein church donated green beans and the Church of God supplied the drinks.

I also want to thank the Rev. Doug Lewis, Pastor Kevin from the Davis Memorial Presbyterian church, Pastor Marvin Parli, Pastor Peter Vial, Walmart, Kroger, Pam Johnson and the Junior Women's Club. Please, if I missed anyone, forgive me.

The outpouring was wonderful and lots of people were served and felt your love.

Also, the community helped give the Children's Home gifts for Christmas. Thank you, Hugh Hitchcock from Davis Trust, Freedom Bank, Mountain Valley Bank, Joyce for organizing the Angel Tree at the First United Methodist Church and all those who bought gifts for the young people at the Children's Home, Pastor Jamie Estep of the Elkins Church of God, Margaret Shaffer, Lisa Preusch from Tomblyn Funeral Home and Beth McNamar from the Design Studio next to Che Bellas for monogramming all the blankets. Thanks to Carson Markley and Janice Lewis for letting us have a Christmas party at the Home. Gifts were provided for 23 young people and they loved them.

There are just not words enough to say how grateful we are to the whole community for bringing Jesus here this holiday season.
