Grant Memorial Hospital celebrated Volunteer Month by honoring 2012 Volunteer of the Year Dave Williams, of Petersburg, and hospital volunteers from the area with a roast beef dinner on April 19 in the hospital cafeteria.
In welcoming those present, Josie Goldizen, activity director, thanked the different groups and individuals.
"You have enriched the lives of our staff and most importantly the lives of our patients and their families with your gift of time and your talents. We thank you for being a part of our hospital family," Goldizen said.
Dave Williams, center, of Petersburg, receives his 2012 Volunteer of the Year award from Josie Goldizen, left, and Shandra Hottinger.
Goldizen praised Williams for his dedication to the hospital's auxiliary.
"Dave has been treasurer since the reactivation of the auxiliary. He set up the computer accounting system and keeps the cash register inventory system current. He rarely misses an auxiliary activity, from backyard carnivals, to bake sales, to his and wife Alma's Wednesdays in the gift shop. We are grateful for your dedication to the hospital."
In addition to the GMH auxiliary volunteers, Grant Memorial Hospital's registered volunteers include local ministers who work with the house and emergency room chaplaincy programs, teen volunteers from the Tri-County area who volunteer in different departments, Petersburg High School senior students who participate in the intern program and who assist staff in the departments to which they are assigned and WV Work Force volunteers who assist in the Activity Department.
