A Buckhannon man has died from injuries suffered this week in a two-vehicle accident in southern Upshur County.

Rudolf J. Spek, 69, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon following the accident on West Virginia Route 20 near Hinkleville.

Spek later died from the injuries.

The accident occurred around 7 p.m. Monday and backed up traffic for hours on that stretch of highway.

The West Virginia State Police investigated the accident. Officers reported that Spek lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Malibu, and the car was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Two other adults were transported to the hospital by the Upshur County Emergency Medical Squad. Their names and conditions were not released.
