ROMNEY - Elkins placed all five starters in double figures in opening the season with a 64-58 win over Hampshire on Tuesday night.

Logan Phillips led the Tigers with 17 points, followed by Brandon Roth with 14, Colby Gainer with 12, and L.J. Lawrence and Tyler Shreve with 10 each. Lawrence also had nine rebounds and four steals.

Elkins trailed 36-29 at the intermission before outscoring the Trojans 18-9 in the third and 17-13 in the final canto.

"This was a good win for us to open the season," said first-year Tiger coach John Lawson. "We made some defensive adjustments at halftime and the kids really responded in the second half."

Travis Clower led Hampshire with 19 points.

Elkins will host Clay-Battelle at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Pendleton County 50

Highland (Va.) .... 35

MONTEREY, Va. - Evan Arrington fired in 22 points as Pendleton County opened the season with a 50-35 win at Highland County (Va.) on Tuesday.

Logan Raines and Codi Lambert added eight points each for the Wildcats, who trailed 23-22 at the intermission before outscoring the Rams 28-12 in the second half.

Joey Whitelaw led Highland County with 17 points.

Pendleton County will host East Hardy at 7:30 p.m on Dec. 12 for a PVC contest.
