Randolph County Board of Education member Bruce Haddix is facing several midemeanor charges, including trespassing and harrassment, because he allegedly was using an ATV on a private roadway.

According to criminal complaints filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, Haddix is facing three misdemeanor counts of trespassing and one count of harrassment.

The first complaint, charging Haddix with trespassing and harassment, was filed on Nov. 26 and alleges that Randolph County Sheriff's Department Deputy A.G. Vanscoy received a complaint from Howard Guy Howell.

The complaint states that Howell observed Haddix operating an ATV on a private road that proceeds through Howell's property. Haddix allegedly said "that his grandsons would be coming in and Howell better not bother them," according to the complaint.

"Howell states that when Haddix was asked if the was making a threat, he (Haddix) responded, 'No, that's a promise,'" Vanscoy wrote in the complaint. "Howell did provide this officer with a photograph of Bruce Haddix operating an ATV on the roadway in question dated Oct. 22, 2012."

Howell also provided photographs of Joshua Wilson operating a motorcycle on the same roadway.

The complaint states the officer was also provided a letter from the law firm Busch, Zurbuch & Thompson stating that Haddix has no current interest in any real estate that would permit him to use the roadway.

Two additional complaints were filed on Dec. 1, both charging Haddix with tresspassing. According to both complaints, Haddix maintained that he had permission to use the roadway to access property owned by Lynn Serpa that adjoins the roadway in question.

"The commonly used access route to the Serpa property is not by means of the roadway in question," the complaint states.

A hearing in the matter has been slated for Randolph County Magistrate Court on 2 p.m. on Feb. 5.
