The West Virginia School Board voted unanimously Wednesday evening to name Dr. James Phares to temporarily fill the state superintendent's post.
The motion to name Phares, who currently serves as the Randolph County superintendent of schools, to the state position was made by board member Jenny Phillips of Elkins. The motion was seconded by board member Robert Dunlevy.
Phares and West Virginia Assistant Superintendent of Schools Kathy D'Antoni were both nominated Wednesday to interview to temporarily fill the state superintendent's post.
State board of education officials broke for dinner, then reconvened to conduct interviews of the two nominees and make their selection. The meeting is being held in Lincoln County.
