KINGWOOD?- Buckhannon-Upshur went to war shorthanded Wednesday night against Class AAA, No. 10 Preston, eventually falling 52-27 in a Big 10 Conference contest..

Playing without Kelsey Hinzman and Haley Ware due to illness, coach Tristan Gray pieced together a young unit to play the talented Knights.

"We played hard and never gave up," Gray said. "We used three freshmen and several other younger players, and we gave a strong effort against a very good team. It was a loss, but there were some positives to draw from tonight."

M.J. Braham led Preston (5-1) with 19 points, followed by carly Kelley with 15. The Knights sprinted out to a 13-1 lead after one quarter, and extended that margin to 29-13 at the half.

Jessica Feronti led the Lady bucs with eight points. Megan Wilfong and Alexis McDaniels each posted team highs of eight rebounds.

Buckhannon-Upshur falls to 1-9 with the loss and will travel to Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for another league contest.
