January 16, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Alderson-Broaddus College and various members of the local business community will launch a community business drive in an effort to raise money to support the A-B Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is vitally important to the institution, supporting a variety of needs; paramount among these needs are student scholarships and co-curricular/extra-curricular student activities and programs.

The following individuals comprise the 2012-13 business drive committee: Mike Cvechko (Committee Chair), vice president of production, Allegheny Insurance; Dr. Cecil Holbert, medical director, The Myers Clinic; Rich and Kathy Mace, co-owners, Mace's Pharmacy; Jeff Rogers, president and chief executive officer, BC Bank; Amber Shor, financial representative, Northwestern Mutual; and Scott Skidmore, general manager, Shop 'n Save.

Area businesses should receive a letter during the week of Jan. 14, inviting them to participate in the effort. The community drive starts this week and will run through Feb. 14. All those who participate in the community business drive will be invited to attend a reception, to be held on Feb. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Battler Room of the Rex Pyles Arena on the campus of A-B College. Additionally, supporters will receive complimentary tickets to see the women's and men's basketball teams take on West Virginia Wesleyan College that same evening at 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

Cvechko said, "A-B College is an integral part of the community and the business community needs to support it." In the 2012-13 academic year, A-B College provided nearly $140 million in institutional aid to Barbour and Harrison County students.
