60th anniversary

Dr. and Mrs. Ronald D. George, formerly of Buckhannon, will celebrate their Diamond Jubilee 60th wedding anniversary on March 8.

Dr. George, a 1951 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, is the son of the late Dorsey and Cecelia George.

Mrs. George, a 1952 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, is the daughter of the late Lynn and Meryle Dawson, all of whom were residents of Buckhannon.

They were married in Buckhannon March 8, 1953, at the First United Methodist Church and honeymooned in Washington, D.C.

The couple raised two daughters in Buckhannon, Ronda George of Cary, N.C., and Diana Cabaniss and husband, Chris, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.. They are the grandparents of Lauren, 11, and Jacob, 10, Cabaniss. They moved south to the Raleigh, N.C., area in 2003 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

Dr. George retired after 40 years as an optometrist in Upshur County and both he and his wife, Joan, were quite active in the community during their nearly 70 years in Buckhannon serving many volunteer organizations.
