Mr. Benjamin Wesley "Poppy Ben" Russeau, 88, a resident of Kings Run Road, passed away Saturday evening, March 16, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was a loving husband and father.

He was born Sept. 7, 1924, at Monroe, Mich., a son of the late Linus and Gladys Louise Russeau.

On Feb. 25, 1989, at Roanoke, Va., he was married to Donna Dorland Russeau, who survives near Elkins.

Also surviving are three daughters, Teri Lee Topping and husband, Dr. Richard Topping, of Elkins, Gwendolyn Lee Smith and husband, Paul, of Roanoke, Va., and Susan Louise Zitter and husband, Ronald, of Everson, Pa.; two sons, Gerry Neal Russeau and wife, Charlene, of Roanoke, Va., and Barry Duane Lee and wife, Donna, of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Kenneth Russeau, Arthur Russeau and Stanley Russeau, all of Michigan; and grandchildren, Ashlee Kristine Topping, Lindsay Nicole Topping, Bailey Renee Topping, Glenda Lynn Web and husband, Trace, Richard Smith, Dustin Russeau, Benjamin Russeau, Ronald Zitter and Nicole Zitter Warfield and husband, Steve.

Also preceding him in death was one son, Tobbie Russeau.

Mr. Russeau was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in Iwo Jima and Nagasaki, Japan during World War II. He was a boxer while serving with the Marines and was a champion in the lightweight division. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va., and served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He preached on Sundays for a local radio station and was a member of the Rock and Gem Society. He was employed as a conductor for the Norfolk and Western Railroad until his retirement.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mark Epperson officiating, and cremation will follow.
