Catherine Elizabeth Smith Hammonds, 87, a former resident of Harman, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Nella's Nursing Home, Inc. at Crystal Springs.
She was born Nov. 3, 1925, at Job, a daughter of the late Jasper Walter Smith and Pearl Long Smith.
On Oct. 5, 1946, she was married to Creed White, who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1979.
On Oct. 3, 1983, she was married to Stanley Hammonds, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1987.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by one son, Douglas White, of Elkins; and one daughter, Miriam Ketterman, of Harman.
Also surviving is one sister, Esther Ratliff, of Harman; and one grandson, Brandan White.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Paul, Herman and Raymond Smith; and one sister, Flossie Varner.
Mrs. Hammonds worked as a Postmaster with the United States Postal Service until her retirement. She was a member of the Job Church of God.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Job.
The family suggests that contributions may be made to the Harman Church of The Brethren, in care of Phyllis Turner, HC 73, box 9, Harman, WV 26270 in memory of Mrs. Hammonds.
