Lunafest, a fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues and highlighting women filmmakers, will be hosted by Mountain State Girls on the Run on April 19 at Davis & Elkins College's Harper McNeely Auditorium.
This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and they cover topics such as women's health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
Women of all ages are encouraged to attend this unique cultural opportunity in support of the area's Girls on the Run program: Mountain State Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run is not just a running program, but it's also a self-esteem and personal skill-building program for girls in elementary and middle school. Each season culminates in a 5k footrace.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online at mountainstategotr.org/lunafest. The film festival begins at 7 p.m.; doors will open at 6 p.m.
All proceeds from Lunafest will benefit Mountain State Girls on the Run and the Breast Cancer Fund.
Thus far, Lunafest, which is created and funded by LUNA, the whole nutrition bar for women, has raised more than $556,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and more than $1,000,000 for other women's nonprofit organizations.
