Minutemaids down Senior

FAIRMONT?- Tori Shea Riley tossed a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Lewis County to a 10-1 win over Fairmont Senior on Saturday.

Riley also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, while Torrie Riffle had two hits an RBI, Chey Watson a triple and Montana Lodge a two-run double.

Brittany Morgan took the loss for the Lady Polar Bears.

Pendleton sweeps Paw Paw

FRANKLIN?-Pendleton County earned a Potomac Valley Conference sweep of Paw Paw on Saturday.

The Wildcats took the opener 6-0 as Logan Cooper earned the win in 2 2/3 innings of relief. He fanned seven and walked one.

Pendleton County broke open a scoreless game by plating three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

Andrew Thompson had a two-run triple during the uprising.

River Weese took the loss for the Pirates, allowing three hits and striking out seven. He also had two hits at the plate.

Daniel Hevener had three hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Wildcats took the nightcap, 12-2, in six innings.

Luke Yokum earned the win in two innings of work, fanning two batters.

Thompson added two hits and three RBIs for the winners.

Pendleton County (2-3) will entertain Frankfort on Tuesday.

College baseball

A-B splits with Cardinals

WHEELING - Alderson-Broaddus defeated Wheeling Jesuit 4-1 in the second game of a doubleheader to earn a West Virginia Conference split on Saturday.

After losing the opening game 11-3, the Battlers used a two-run homer by Sean Collette and a strong effort on the hill by Chris Boatto to earn the victory.

Boatto fanned seven and allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Brandon Quay earned the save.

The Cardinals pounded out 12 hits en route to winning the opening game.

A-B (13-10, 8-7 WVC) will travel to league rival Davis &?Elkins at 1 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader.

Wesleyan 16, Bluefield St. 5

LINDSIDE -J.R. Tenney blasted two home runs to lead Wesleyan to a 16-5 win over Bluefield State Saturday in West Virginia Conference action.

Andrew Ornes earned the win for the Bobcats, allowing 10 hits over nine innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Wesleyan (11-11, 7-1 WVC) will host West Liberty at 1 p.m. Tuesday for a WVC doubleheader.

College softball

A-B splits with UC

CHARLESTON - Alderson-Broaddus earned a split with Charleston Saturday in West Virginia Conference play.

The Lady Battlers dropped the opener 5-3 before taking the second game, 6-0.

Senior hurler Vanessa Bodily tossed a two-hitter in game two.

The righty fanned nine UC batters and issued two walks in the win.

Hannah Copenhaver led A-B at the plate with a two-run single.

UC capitalized on three Battler errors in the series opener and converted them into three unearned runs.

A-B (9-10 overall, 1-1 WVC) will host Fairmont State at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader.
