EMS sweeps Lumberport; Tigers win

The Elkins Middle School softball team swept a pair of games from Lumberport Monday in middle school softball action.

The Lady Hornets (13-2) won the first game 5-3 and swept the nightcap 11-1 in four innings.

Korri Evans notched the win in Game 1 in seven innings of work, while striking out seven.

Abby Collett and Haley Collett had two hits each, while Michella Young had a triple for the Lady Hornets in Game 1.

Evans picked up the win in the second game in four innings of work, while striking out four.

Haley Collett had two hits, including a home run, while Abby Collett and Bailey Young had two hits each for the Lady Hornets.

Elkins hosts Taylor County tonight at 6 p.m.

High School Baseball

Elkins 6, Bridgeport 5

BRIDGEPORT - Jacob Wyatt had two hits to lead Elkins past Bridgeport 6-5 Monday in Big 10 Conference action.

Clayton Collett and Silas Gibson had one hit each, drove in two runs and scored a run for the Tigers (11-9).

Colby Gainer also had one hit and scored two runs for Elkins.

Gainer notched the win for the Tigers in seven innings of work. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out two.

Elkins hosts Philip Barbour tonight at 7 p.m. at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Philip Barbour 9, Lewis County 8

PHILIPPI - Jacob Marsh hit a game winning home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to lead Philip Barbour past Lewis County 9-8 Monday in Big 10 Conference action.

Saige Cline had two hits and drove in two runs, while Bryant Martin had two hits and an RBI for the Colts (8-13).

Al Johnson also had two hits for Philip Barbour.

Doug Smith picked up the win for the Colts in five innings of relief. He gave up no runs on four hits and struck out seven.

Michael Monnett took the loss for the Minutemen (9-6) in 4 1/3 innings of relief. He gave up two hits and struck out seven.

Nick Minutelli had five hits and drove in two runs for Lewis County.

Philip Barbour travels to Elkins tonight at 7 p.m. for a Big 10 Conference tilt.

Lewis County hosts South Harrison on the same night at 6 p.m. for a non-conference tilt.

Pendleton County 8, Bath County (Va.) 4

FRANKLIN - Luke Yokum had three hits and scored three runs to lead Pendleton County past Bath County (Va.) 8-4 Monday in non-conference action.

Daniel Hevener had two hits and three runs batted in, while Logan Raines had two hits singles for the Wildcats (15-9).

Tim Hevener picked up the win for Pendleton in four innings of work. He gave up no runs on no hits and struck out seven.

Pendleton County travels to Union on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for a Potomac Valley Conference tilt.
