Elkins tennis teams sweep Lewis

The Elkins High School boys and girls tennis swept Lewis County Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at Davis &?Elkins College.

The Tigers won the boys match, 7-0. Taking wins in singles competition were Jonathan Gainer, Jacob Schoonover, Taylor Stump and Ryan Henson.

In doubles, Schoonover and Gainer, Henson-Linkoln Barger and Sean Cain- Tommy Cain earned wins.

The EHS girls claimed a 5-3 victory. Winning in singles competition were Kayla Carr, Taylor Epperson and Taylor Gadd (8-0).

In doubles action, Epperson-Kayla Gainer and Bradley Gutta-Caitlin Gutta took wins.

Elkins will travel to Jefferson Thursday for regional play.

Prep baseball

Tygarts Valley 12, Webster 5

UPPER GLADE - P.J. Lanham had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Tygarts Valley past Webster County 12-5 Tuesday in non-conference action.

Lanham also had four RBIs and scored three runs, while Keighan Chewning had three hits and three RBIs for Tygarts Valley (13-9).

Timmy Sparks had two hits and three runs batted in, while Andrew Torres and Ryan Hoffman had two hits each for the Bulldogs.

Brandon Pritt notched the win for Tygarts Valley in 4 2/3 innings of work. He gave up two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three.

Tygarts Valley hosts Petersburg Thursday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference tilt.

East Hardy splits games

BAKER - The East Hardy High School baseball team split a pair of games from Washington Tuesday in non-conference action.

The Cougars won the first game 14-8 and lost the second game, 10-5.

Tyler Mongold notched the win in the lidlifter in seven innings of work. He gave up eight runs on 12 hits, walked three and struck out five.

Brady Hinkle had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs to lead the Cougars.

Cole Collier added two hits and an RBI, while Mongold had two hits.

Collier took the loss for the Cougars in 2 1/3 innings of work. He gave up six runs on four hits and struck out one.

Mongold had two home runs and four RBIs for East Hardy.

The Cougars (17-10) will host Keyser at 4:30 p.m. Friday a twin-bill.
