The Rock Cave CEOS met May 7 at the Banks District Civic Center with 13 members, two guests, guest speaker Belinda Lewis and Ely McCartney in attendance. Jean Linger gave the blessing before refreshments.
Lewis, a certified Silver Sneakers instructor from the Buckhannon Fitness Center, gave her presentation and an exercise demonstration that the members joined.
The door prize was won by Gail Bosley. Devotions were read by Carol Haymond, "Quietude" and Janet Depoy, "Spring Renewal" followed by the flag salute.
Avis Bowles read the April minutes. One correction was made in reference to the plant and white elephant sale in June. If enough money from the sale is not made, the club will take up a collection to make up for the shortfall. The club will have just one auction at Christmas. A motion was made to accept the minutes by Carol Haymond, seconded by Susie Bender, and it carried. Linger gave the treasurer's report, which was accepted as read.
Debbie Page reported making a basket for the Longaberger basket bingo to benefit the Upshur County Fair at a cost of $20. Page read a list of items in the basket, and reported making the strawberry basket for the basket contest, spending $11.
"Food for Thought" was discussed and completed. In correspondence, Bowles read a thank-you card from the Upshur County Community Baby Shower.
Under old business, the group discussed the achievement banquet. The club's poster won first place.
Page thanked everyone for helping at the Advisory Board meeting. She reported that there will be no mother/daughter/friend luncheon this year because of the lack of interest. It was decided not to send a donation to Relay For Life because the group supports Heaston Ridge.
The 2013 County Belle is Eloise Tenney from Heavner Grove Club, and the Strawberry Belle is Rosemary Simons from Pringle Tree. The 2013 state project will be adult clothing protectors for hospice.
Susie Bender, Janet Depoy, Jean Linger and Connie Simmons planned to attend the Weston area meeting on May 9. JoAnn Hawkins reported a cleanup planned June 3 at Fidler's Mill. Dale Hawkins was scheduled to do a Civil War dinner on June 8. On May 11, there was a chicken barbecue at the Banks District Fire Department. Dora Neely reported that food donations are needed.
Learn 'n Return for September, October and November was set for June 3 for JoAnn, Dora and Debbie.
Club members were asked to have "Blankets of Hope" in early this year. Forty blankets are needed before Head Start school starts.
The Strawberry Festival was from May 11-19. The group displayed its poster at the IGA for West Virginia CEOS Week from May 19-25.
Breakfast at the Ganes Diner was May 14. For show and tell, Linger brought in dandelion jelly that she made, and members sampled it. A motion to adjourn was made by Dottie Bosley, seconded by Linger and carried. Adjournment was at 8:55 p.m.
