New Vision Renewable Energy's IMPACT group is planning a second community service learning trip July 18-19. The trip will be an overnight trip in Morgantown.
While in Morgantown, the youth will conduct car washes, assemble solar lights, participate in small construction projects, work with younger children in the Morgantown community and participate in other activities. All proceeds made on the car washes will be used to sponsor solar lights for the St. Christine's School in the Kibera Slum in Kenya.
Any youth ages 12-17 can participate. The cost of the trip is 14 Community U bucks or $10. Responsible adults are also invited to participate. This is the second trip the IMPACT group will be hosting.
On June 22, youth and the IMPACT mentors made a 350-mile journey to Charlotte, N.C. to give a little back not only to their own community but the Kibera Slum. The youth hosted a car wash and raised enough money to sponsor four lights costing $100 apiece. The group participated in Charlotte's own, Seek the City, a faith-based community service movement that encouraged teens to do mission-type work near their homes. Part of Seek the City included a nightly athletic event followed by a praise and worship service and thoughts from a speaker.
