An Elkins man who allegedly shot another man in the head Monday evening turned himself in to authorities Tuesday morning, police said.
Wade Allen Raese, 25, was charged with attempted murder. His bond was set at $250,000 cash only by Randolph County Chief Magistrate Ben Shepler.
The victim, Ryan Earl Young, was transported Monday evening from Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. On Tuesday afternoon, a Ruby Memorial representative said Young was in critical condition.
After an extensive search, including speaking with Raese's friends and family, Raese called authorities and revealed to his location to them, Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday.
Police picked Raese up at the Central Towers apartment building in Elkins. He was taken into custody by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
According to the criminal complaint in Magistrate Court, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sgt. B.T. Pawelczyk and Corp. A.G. Vanscoy of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to a call from Davis Memorial Hospital about a man who had suffered a gun shot wound to the head.
Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were informed of Young's name by staff and a female acquaintance of the victim. The acquaintance told police Raese shot the victim inside an automobile while all three were riding through Highland Park, the complaint states.
The acquaintance, whose name was not released, allegedly told police she was driving the vehicle when Young, who was in the front passenger seat, was shot. The acquaintance stated Raese was sitting in the back passenger seat behind Young when he shot him, according to the complaint.
No motive has been discovered at this time and the incident is still under investigation, Brady said. A description of the firearm used in the incident has not been released.
"I appreciate the cooperation and work of all of the Elkins City Police and the State Police in this case," Brady said in a phone interview Tuesday. "The public and media have also helped by giving input and getting the subject to turn himself in."
Raese was in custody at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail at presstime.
No information has yet been released about the victim's age or where he is from.
