The Mingo Historical Society is reaching out to the descendants of the eight young children who unveiled the Confederate Soldier Monument a century ago on June 23, 1913, in Mingo Flats.

The girls participating were Anna Hall, Nina Marshall, Grace Stewart and Lola Ware. The boys were Richard Hall, Adam Marshall, Arnold Ware and Howard Wood.

They were all dressed in white and slowly unwound the red, white and blue bunting that covered the statue.

Any descendants wishing to represent their family and unveil the statue at the centennial rededication on July 27 may can contact the Mingo Historical Society on Facebook, at or by calling 304-339-2598. Descendants of all ages are welcome to walk in their ancestors' footsteps and make history come alive.
