Buckhannon to be home of new Taco Bell

Buckhannon residents looking for a new lunch spot will soon be able to chow down on chalupas.

Fiesta Holdings, LLC, of Baltimore, on Tuesday announced its plans to build a Taco Bell in Buckhannon.

Construction on the new restaurant - which will be located in the lot between Progressive Bank and CVS on Main Street - is likely to be complete by the end of this year, Upshur County Development Authority Executive Director Steve Foster said Tuesday.

"We've been talking to them for two or three years about coming to Buckhannon, but it was just a matter of them finding the right spot," Foster said. "It's something the (West Virginia Wesleyan) college kids have been asking us about for awhile now."

Foster said the arrival of the new fast-food chain will add about 15-20 new jobs to the Buckhannon area.

"Anytime you can add another option for people, it's always in the direction of good," Foster added. "It's something a little different than your typical hamburger joint."

Taco Bell's website describes the restaurant as "the nation's leading Mexican- inspired quick service restaurant."

Buckhannon resident Torina Lonas said she's thrilled about the news.

"I just read Taco Bell is coming to Buckhannon. That's the best news... I can't wait," she said in an email Tuesday. "It's going to be a big hit here."

Alex Lawrence, a partner in Fiesta Holdings, LLC, said he's happy the restaurant will be stationed at a prime spot on Main Street.

"We are very excited about our newest Taco Bell to be built on Main Street in Buckhannon," Lawrence stated in a press release issued Tuesday. "We have searched several years for a site that would not only serve the downtown area, but would be a convenient location for the students at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

"We look forward to a strong partnership with Buckhannon and Upshur County as we continue to develop the Taco Bell brand."
