How often do we stop to think about the value of a small, community hospital? In this time of escalating medical costs and changing health care coverage, we sometimes lose sight of the obvious.
St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon is a tremendous asset not only to the city of Buckhannon, but to the entire county as well as surrounding areas.
My husband and I have a new reason to be thankful for its services.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, my husband experienced a serious cardiac event. The outcome could have been much different were it not for the staff of the emergency department at St. Joseph's. From the concierge and registration clerks to the doctor, nurses, and medical support personnel, my husband was treated with a high degree of professional competence, respect and caring.
We are especially thankful to Dr. Maria Long who administered treatment, communicated with physicians at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, and arranged for transport.
The Upshur County EMS members who provided that transport were of the highest caliber.
We truly appreciate Laura, who handled the ambulance with superior skill, and Eric, who provided monitoring and care during the journey.
God allowed us to be in the right place at the right time to receive the best care in this medical emergency. We are blessed by His goodness and grateful to each and every person who played a part.
