Jackets get past Warriors

Pocahontas girls too much for East Hardy

MOOREFIELD - Moorefield collected a 25 team steals en route to a 55-39 win over Pocahontas County Monday night in PVC action.

"We did a nice job defensively tonight," Yellow Jackets coach Pat McGregor said. "That's been one of our strengths all season.

"We just need to convert our opportunities. We're still having problems putting the ball in the basket and not taking advantage of our defensive steals."

Aaron Cole bucketed 20 points to lead Moorefield, followed by Austin Williams with 14 points and Dakota Vetter with 10 markers and 10 rebounds.

Stephen Mick paced the Warriors (1-3, 0-2 PVC with 11 points.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2, 1-1) will face Pendleton County at 6 p.m. Friday in the Petersburg Holiday Tournament.

Pocahontas County will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at home against Bath County (Va.) for a non-conference contest.

Girls basketball

Pocahontas 65, East Hardy 28

DUNMORE - Pocahontas County captured its fourth straight game with a 65-28 win over East Hardy Monday night in PVC play.

Tristin Day tallied 19 points, Bobbi McNabb 17, Sarah Ryder 12 and Melissa Murphy 11 for the Warriors (4-1).

Rayann Foltz had 11 points for the Cougars.

Pocahontas County will travel to Summersville for the Armory Classic at 6 p.m. Friday.

East Hardy will be idle until visiting Union at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2. for another PVC contest.
