CRYSTAL SPRINGS - One man was hospitalized following a two-vehicle accident Thursday evening on old Route 33 just east of the Crystal Springs/Elkins exit, police said.
According to a press release from Sgt. R.K. Swisher of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, a 2010 Chevy Silverado slid on the ice and snow into a westbound tractor trailer.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:12 p.m. on Thursday.
The driver of the Silverado, Christopher Sauerwein, II, of Beverly, was taken to Davis Memorial Hospital to be treated for his extensive injuries. As of Friday afternoon, he was still a patient at DMH, hospital officials said.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Randy Mayes, was uninjured, police said.
Neither vehicle had additional passengers.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene with extensive damage. Police are reporting that road conditions appear to be the only reason for the accident.
Crews blocked traffic for several hours while conducting clean-up and safety measures.
