Dorothy Channell

Mrs. Dorothy Annabell McDonald Channell, 89, a resident of Junior, departed this life early Saturday morning, Jan. 25, 2014, at her home following a period of declining health.

She was born April 2, 1924, at Junior, a daughter of the late Gordon A. and Chloe Belle Daniels McDonald.

On Feb. 19, 1944, at Elkins, she was united in marriage to Bobby E. Channell, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1995.

Mrs. Channell is survived by two sons, Robert E. "Tinker" Channell and wife, Tonda, of Belington and Timothy "Kim" Channell and companion, Mike Graham, of Junior; six sisters, Loretta Winkler, Jean Hawkins, Jeri Brady and husband, Gail, all of Junior, Gay Thorne and husband, Bud, of Belington, Lola Bussey of Parkersburg and Dixie Pride and husband, Moe, of Bephre, Ohio.

Also surviving are one grandson, Howard Channell; several nieces and nephews and her faithful canine companion, Harley.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Bradley McDonald; two sisters, Helen Sturm and Betty Fitzwater; and one infant sibling.

Mrs. Channell had attended the schools of Barbour County. She was one of the "Rosie the Riveters" during WWII, assembling aircrafts in Baltimore Md. She a former sister of the Knights of Pythias, was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Belington, VFW Post 410 Ladies Auxiliary in Belington, the Junior Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Randolph County Senior Center. She was an avid bingo player and instrumental in the formation of the Junior Community Action Committee. She was known as an avid baker and cook, especially preparing food for community gatherings. She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, and again on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Cemetery in Junior.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Care Corporation at P.O. Box 760 Arthurdale, WV 26520. The family would like to thank Hospice Care Corporation for all of their care and compassion during the final days of their loved one Dorothy Channell.
