A Driver Safety Program refresher course with AARP, an innovative classroom driver re-training program designed to help older persons improve their skills, is being offered Feb. 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Barbour County Senior Center located at the corner of Main and Church streets in Philippi.
This four-hour course was developed by AARP as a refresher for people that have already had the initial Drivers Safety Course. It covers the effects of aging and medications on driving, basic driving rules, license renewal, local traffic hazards, adverse road conditions, energy saving and accident prevention measures.
Persons of any age are eligible to participate in the program. No insurance discount for persons under 55 years of age unless the insurance agent permits. Persons that have not had the initial eight-hour AARP Drivers Safety Class may be eligible for the discount if their insurance agent permits. The course fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Please bring a check made payable to AARP for the correct amount when you register for the class or mail the check to the Barbour County Senior Center, P.O. Any person 60 years of age or older is welcome to participate in programs and services sponsored by the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services regardless of race, creed, sex, handicap, geographic residence or national origin.
