Bruce Robert and Ocie Lillian VanDevender Thompson of Sully will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on May 25.
The couple first met in Sully while Mrs. Thompson and her sister, Verna, were walking home from church, after moving from Glady. Mr. Thompson and his brother, Seymour, picked the sisters up along the road and gave them a ride home.
On May 25, 1959, in Red House, Md., they were united in a marriage that has withstood the test of time. For 65 years, they have been doing rockin' chairs, rockin' babies, rock-a-bye, rock of ages and still they remain side by side together, always.
They are the parents of 11 children, William, Carroll, Diana Crites, David, Kenneth, Barbara Worden, Donna Crickard, Stella Harvey, Jamie Kittle, Linda and Steven; and eight grandchildren, Chris Crites, Shawn and Laura Thompson, Jessica and Angel Harvey and Micah, Karlie and Emma Thompson as well as two stepgrandchildren, James Summerfield and Heather Kittle.
On May 24, the family will host a small surprise celebration beginning at 1 p.m. at the Thompson's home in Sully. Family and friends are invited to attend.
